Susie Martone

Choral Director, Frank S. Greene Middle School


Susie Martone directs the 6th-8th grade choral music program at Frank S. Greene Middle School in Palo Alto. Prior to teaching in Palo Alto, Susie developed the 5th-8th grade choral music program in the Ross Valley School District in Marin County. She founded the North Bay Youth Choir in 2013, a community youth choir for high school age singers based in San Anselmo, which resulted in the reinstatement of the choral program at Redwood High School in Larkspur in 2017.

Susie grew up singing in school choirs in New York and Virginia and pursued a formal music education at James Madison University and Florida State University, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education. Before relocating to the Bay Area in 2009, she taught elementary general music and high school chorus in Fairfax, Virginia. Susie has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as a member of The Washington Chorus, as well as other venues with various choral groups in Washington, DC and San Francisco.

Susie has served as Choral Representative on the boards of the Marin Music Educators Association and the Bay Section of the California Music Educators Association. She has presented sessions on junior high/middle school choral directing at local, regional, and statewide music educator conferences, and has directed several junior high honor choirs in California and Nevada. Susie was recognized with CMEA Bay Section’s Outstanding Choral Director Award in 2018.
