Men’s Choirs

Hello CCDA colleagues,

My name is Gavin Spencer and I am the Male Choirs Repertoire and Resources Chairperson.  I have been teaching high school choir for more than 15 years.  I currently teach at Shasta High School in Redding.  I teach a beginning men’s choir, two women’s choirs, an a cappella choir and a madrigal choir.  I love teaching high school students  and would love to help you in any way.  Though assisting you with your male chorus is my main function, I feel I have other strengths that could benefit your program.  I would really enjoy talking to you or simply replying to an email.

Besides, male choirs, I would feel confident in assisting you with the following areas:

Madrigal Dinner & Musical
I have been directing Broadway scale musicals and madrigal dinners for the past 11 years.  I feel very confident with the process of organizing these large productions. Perhaps it’s your first show and you don’t know how to get the ball rolling.  Otherwise, I can help assist you with technical issues such as lighting, sound, backdrops, special effects, etc.

Choir Tours – Big and Small
I travel with my students every year.  Every third year we take an international tour for 10 – 12 days.  Last summer, 60 students and parents travelled to Costa Rica for 11 days.  In 2008, 70 students and parents traveled to Czech Republic, Austria and Germany.  In 2005, we toured England Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Paris.  I believe I can assist you with most aspects of a choir tour.  And I have a SECRET for quickly finding great hotel rooms at really low rates.  Two years ago, my program stayed at a Courtyard Marriott in a great location close to Portland, Oregon for $55/night. Contact me if you’d like to be in on it.

Honor Choir
I am a loyal advocate for student participation in California’s Regional and All-State honor choirs.  Many of my students have had life changing experiences there.  I feel confident in preparing students and directors for the audition process.

I believe that attending CCDA & ACDA conferences are the best vehicle for growing as a choral conductor. I would be happy to share with you the “DON’T MISS” CCDA conferences.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me. I would love to talk to you.
