2020-2021 All State Honor Choir Updates–we are going virtual!
The CCDA/SCVA Honor Choirs are an amazing opportunity for school students from around the state of California to sing in select choirs under the direction of nationally and internationally known conductors. We normally have three Regional High School Honor Choir events; however, regional honor choirs are canceled completely this year. We also host an All-State High School and All-State Jr. High/9th Grade Honor Choir event.
Due to the fluidity of the Covid situation in California, CCDA is not able to offer an in-person All State this year. However, we will be offering our students a virtual All State experience, which we are very excited about! For more information, please check out this presentation. This is new territory for us all, so we will be continually updating our membership as the event takes shape. Please email me if you have any questions!

A reminder of our no-show policy: “By submitting an application, the singer, director, and school/organization agree to follow through on their commitment for that singer to participate in the honor choir should he or she be accepted. This policy stands at both the Regional and All State levels. You are required to attend all of the rehearsals. Your school/organization may be subject to a one-year suspension from participation in honor choirs if any singer from your school/organization does not attend any or all required activities after being accepted, unless there are extenuating circumstances such as illness, injury, or death in the family.”
CCDA Position on Transgender Student Equity
The California Choral Directors Association commits to be inclusive for students who identify as transgender or gender expansive. CCDA affirms that students of any gender may audition for any CCDA honor choir that matches their vocal range. Thus, transgender and gender-expansive students may be placed in any honor ensemble in which they feel comfortable. However, it would be expected that the student meets all of the expectations for that ensemble, including demonstrating the necessary vocal range for the voice part for which they are auditioning as part of their audition.
CCDA encourages its members to work with their school and county administration to ensure a positive and inclusive environment for transgender and gender-expansive students. This may include placing transgender and gender-expansive students in voice-specific ensembles (SSAA or TTBB) for which they identify, modifying vocal parts slightly, modifying uniform expectations for all students, and increased awareness of how hormone therapies may affect the singing voice.
This is a living statement and CCDA will make edits as needed. For more information about trans and gender expansive terminology, please visit https://www.transstudent.org/definitions
